PostSubject: Hello my name is Jagyc   Hello my name is Jagyc I_icon_minitimeFri Oct 30, 2015 11:16 am

Hi, I'm the new guy. I have always liked the Mandalorian look, sense the 90's remastered movies came out, I've been in love with the armor and the characters who operated in it. Functional, not flashy, lean and mean. Function before form. When I finally got the chance to play a Star Wars character for the D20 system...Of course I went with a Mandalorian. I looked up what my name "Andrew" meant in English. When it came up as "masculine" or "manly" I looked up what it the equivalent in Mando'a, thus I found Jagyc.
Last name...well that was to be to much of a hassle so I decided to skip that (as my family name had been changed by either my Great-grandfather or some time before, as many Americans' last names have been). So I decided to go with a given name instead of last name. So I went with something that a friend once described me as "stoic" and what my first job was, a guardsman in the California Army National Guard. so I got "Atin" meaning stubborn, tenacious, capable of endurance. And for guardsman I came up with "aran" meaning guard and "cabur" meaning guardian/protector. Sense my unit didn't deploy while I was in (it had deployed a year before i got there.) I decided to go with aran sense I didn't get my chance to test my skills in combat, thus (in my mind) I did't deserve "cabur" (even if I trained with veteran soldiers with multiple deployments.
I never had the chance to practice much with Mando'a...especially sense most of my friends want to be Jetii, Darjetii, or smugglers (thankfully none of them want to be hutts, I...well lets just say that I would blow one up before being employed by one). And before now, I haven't had the funds to get into assembling my armor (I haven't even got close to buying a kit for several reasons). I already have a solid idea of what my armor will be, mainly...I was Light Infantry while in the military, so I was thinking of no jet pack, maybe a cloak (thinking about a ghillie cloak), natural coloration (possibly winter with green and brown speckles or something). Weapons being a wrist mounted missile launcher, other wrist being a dart launcher/wrist crossbow, and then the shoulder mounted gatling gun as seen in the Star Wars battle front games on PSP and the Star Wars Battle Front II.
Anyhow...that is enough from me..time to go and hope my pay check has several hundred to start my funds for making my armor come off the D20 character sheet and into reality.

Welcome Ner Vod pardon the dust and the cobwebs as most of the members haven't been around for some time. Life am I right? Allow me to be the first one to welcome you to Mandoboard. Hopefully our ranks will either return or renew. Feel free to brows all the topics and throw in bucket in. there most likely wont be much discussion but in the very least should some one come back, your voice will be heard.

I know several of us have built our own beskar'gam (myself included) so if you have any question make a thread or post in a current one and I'll be more than happy to give you any advice I can lend.

Thank you for welcoming me to the forum. I would hope that after Star Wars Episode 7 is released, that it the forum will come back to life a bit. That, and Star Wars Battlefront. Anyhow...what is the average cost of a beskar'gam kit? I don't mind assembling it myself, but I lack the know how and tools to shape my own armor plates.

If you're looking for just a kit, I'd search on The Dented Helmet. or on the Mandalorian Mercs forums, they have guys selling kits from time to time. Though the price varies. I just looked up what the accepted materials for building a suit were (Sintra is the easiest to work with but in my town almost impossible to come by.) and then used templates that TDH offers for armor plates and what not. The helmet was sculpted by me, for me ages ago and is made out of fiberglass. Arguably the hardest part of the suit to make.

There are templates and instructions on how to make it all yourself from scratch and vod. I promise you, though the sweat and tears and table flipping frustration you're gonna feel while you're doing it for a few months (if not a year or so) is going to feel so unbearable. Nothing feels better than people loosing their osik over a home brew suit that you made yourself.

The info is out there, you just need to want it bad enough. Hunt that bounty and the reward is worth it.

I was thinking of getting a kit from here: http://www.themandalorianarsenal.com/armor.html#DW1and2
I am not sure if the prices for their kits is fair or not, the work seems good in photos.

That kit should be fine. I was never crazy about the clone wars death watch suits. something about the thigh plates being on the side and being holsters for your blasters just seems strange.

In the end it's whatever floats your boat ner vod. you just better post progress photos!

Well its going to take me a bit of time to get the funds together. I am looking forward to working on something other then chain armor. Anyhow...getting paid next week, that should put me up to $380, that is only enough for the armor, so...I should have my funds in about 3 weeks.

Well I've been working on my last name...or earned/given name...so far i'm thinking Atinla'aran. Atin already means stubborn/capable of endurance...so maybe I don't need the -la (indicating an adjective). Anyhow...I'm planning on using Word Processor with the Mando'a font I found, to make a stencil to put "Jagyc" on my helmet. Then the earned name...I could imagine that mercenary bands would have earned nick names and such. So have that on the same side. Then on the other side of my helm have two rows of light sabers, one red, the other blue. I am not on the light or the dark side...only my own and my family's.
