Because Wookieepedia doesn't have much info on them and I know you guys will.

I was (finally) playing Bastion's Star Wars RPG again yesterday, and (hooray, finally!) got the chance to have my Zabrak Mando go back home so she could figure out why other Mandos kept looking at her funny in bars; oh, and on the way, ended up with an entourage of twelve black and red armored Mando escorts. At least one of them even had neat armor that changed to a more subtle green at the touch of a button! Surprised Anyhow, when she got home, she asked her grandparents what the hell was going on, and it was revealed that her parents were--drumroll please--Death Watch members! And that her entourage was there to watch her and see if she were fit to join, as well.

I only know the barest bit of them from what I read in RepCom; and that's only that other Mandos don't like 'em 'cause they're crazy, and Ghez Hokan liked his job too much and was too crazy, even for them, so they had to kick him out.

And such it is that I come to you, ner vode. Enlighten me on the inner workings of the Death Watch, so I can figure just how thrilled or appalled Kasi should be to realize she might be welcomed into their group! Wink

I'm not familiar with the Death Watch apart from what I read in Open Season comics. I just know they use a slightly different armor design and their logo looks like an imperial shuttle with its wings folded up.

To me they seem more like a hardcore group of mercenaries that wear armor and they don't follow any strict moral code. It's indeed an interesting perspective to take as it seems these days that regular Mandalorians aren't bad ass anymore Razz

Yeah, that's about what I've got...'cept in a more concise manner of terms that I can actually reference and relay to others. Very Happy And it does sure as hell seem that Mandos are well on their way to goin' the way of the hippies...not sure if I feel it's a shame, or appreciate that they're going through a collective character development. Everything else in the gorram 'verse seems to be one way or the other; planets, civilizations, religions--I mean, the Force. ;P

It's due to the fact that we all sit in our own perspective and only look at things from a certain point of view that makes everything either good or evil. That's generally speaking and if you want to be talking in the absolute.

But that's not the debate here. I really wish there was more to the Death Watch than we know so far so maybe that's an opening for creativity.

I once made a Death Watch type character, I essentially just made him far more ruthless and clinical uncaring of others around him so in a sense more badass yea, but that's not saying mando's are not bad ass they care for their own so they have a comradeship and are badass to everyone else. Death Watch in my opinion are badass to everyone and have issues...alooot of issues, from some other star wars sources I remember them as being the ones wanting to relive the glory days back during pre jedi civil war era etc. So in reality I think they're an offshoot of the mandalorian mainstream 'extremists' I dare say.

Well hope that helps, I'm thinking of actually doing some further research into it as you've given me inspiration of sorts lol. If I find some more 'concrete' info I'll be sure to post it up for you!

The death watch started when Jaster wrote his codex. Jaster thought the Mandalorians should be more honor bound in their work/wars. Vizla thought that the Mandalorians should stay more like the Mandalorians of old, killing everyone and anyone despite their skill, age, or gender. This conflict led Vizla to split from the Mandalorians taking other like minded members with him and forming the death watch.

The two sides began to fight which became known as the Mandalorian civil war. In time they orphaned Jango Fett, who was then adopted by Jaster. They later killed Jaster himself which turned around as Jango killed most of them for revenge and they vanished for some time.

around 1 ABY remnants of the death watch where found in a bunker on endor that was used to make Mandalorian armor. The new overload was Teti Viba who was killed (by players of the mmo star wars galaxies).

The newer DW have "sub-organizations" based on armor color , Wraiths wore white, ghosts grey, and bloodguard a blood red.

They where also somehow aligned with the Black sun

known members of course can be found on wiki:
Epo Areur
Rarckokoo Athaichoso
Fenri Dalso
Weno Deowasoac
Ghez Hokan (discharged)
A-Op Igi
Klin Nif
Rageon Vart
Teti Viba
Oorkes Vilaz
Vizsla (leader)

as far as i know thats about it, hope it helps

(the Vizsla time frame info comes from the open season comics, the Teti Viba info is game content from the mmo star wars galaxies)

also as far as appearance goes, most people think the Death Watch have their own special horned helmets:

Death Watch, yo. Deathwatch1

My personal thought is that was something that Vizslas gang did, probably even before they became Deathwatch. Many Many Mandalorians have custom looks to their helmets and I simply think this one was coined death watch.

Later Death watch worn standard looking Mandalorian armor:

Death Watch, yo. Teti_Viba

and if you actually manage to get some of it in the game (i have about 12 suits lol) you see its named "Mandalorian Armor".

So long story short I think they look just normal Mandalorians.

During the Clone Wars, most of the remaining Death Watchmen remained in hiding while 12 joined Spar, aka Mandalore the Resurrector, in fighting for the Separatists.

Also of note, their vaguely W shaped symbol is described in Imperial Commando as being a stylized shriek-hawk mid-dive.

Shiny! Thanks, guys. I'll have to talk to Bastion a bit to see what all his Death Watch group has as far as rules and the like, or what they are against doing or will shun you for, etc., but I'm pretty sure it'll follow the basics gathered here...now, to consult with my Mando and see how she feels about them. Well...yeah. ^_^' But it's Bastion's campaign (and mostly for fun--this isn't the first out-there thing that's happened, you should see what the sullustan keeps doing XD), so it's "Death Watch equivalent," if you wanna get technical about it. I went with just sticking to asking about the Death Watch itself because we don't have any other threads about them, and I was curious, so...two birds with one stone.

Hahaha. 'S nothin' dirty, if that's where you were goin' with that...he's just nearly blown up two planets, imploded a ship we were borrowing from the Jedi temple, turned a Death Star-esque ship into the "Yarmulke of Doom," and just sold the plans for his WMD to...damn, I forget. Someone. Oh, and he nearly melted all our gear and ships and everything metal within the area with a random grenade he made from scratch (much akin to the happy-fun-time green stuff in GI Joe), but we were lucky and it fell into a hole and just melted some underground stuff that pretty much disabled the entire area, we found out later, when all the shops were in a tizzy. ^_^'

Awesome! The Death Watch are really my favourite Mandos in the prequel era because they are so nasty. My RP character on SWG, Cuir (the one on the far right in the banner image) is supposed to have been one of them. Good to see others having an interest in them. Very Happy

And when in the RP I sought out all the info I wanted on them also.

In a nutshell, the Death Watch (Kyr'tsad in Mando'a, meaning Death Society but also know as Death Squad) was founded as the answer to Jaster Mereel's standardization of a moral code ca. 60 BBY. They adhered to no moral codes themselves, and this made them likely to do just about anything. The leader, an egomaniac named Tor Vizsla, proclaimed to be preparing the Mandalorians for a war on the galaxy like their forefathers instead of settling with being a simple and forgotten people, which in fact he didn't directly act on appearently. But that's basically why the other Mandalorians didn't like them. Amoral and wishing to raid and pillage instead of making an honest living as mercenaries. They saw themselves as superiour to anyone and took what they wanted. Like we see in Open Seasons: they killed children, made "evidence" to frame others and there was also a hint that when in town, they would commit war rapes.

Ask away if you need to know something specific, but sadly there's little to know about them. I combed the internet and sourcebooks in the last 4 years to put together something useful for RP. tongue

Wayii! That's an excellent summary of 'em right there, Gratulor. cheers (Although, to my amusement, summing up what you said makes them equate to pirates in my mind. pirat ) It'll be another week or two, at least, before we'll get to play again, but I've definitely got a handle on what to think of the clan now (upon asking for clarification, Bastion cleared it up that the "Death Watch" my mando has been invited to join is simply their clan who feel the same general way the future Death Watch do).

Still amuses me that Kasi gets to go through two trials; first, the traditional Zabrak one for adulthood, and now one to join the pseudo-cult clan. XD

And as far as I remember, DW members were famous for boozing and debauchery on board their vessels as well. Laughing Can't remember the source, though.

Concernng Hokan - I didn't actually get an impression that he was some kind of crazy sadistic bastard, which is certainly implied when it's told he even had to leave Death Watch because he was too tough (or something) for them. He did his job and he did it well. So it leaves me wondering if DW was really as bad as they're said to have been.

That came from the History of the Mandalorians article from Insider. They appearently boozed on Mandallian Necrolathe (sounds bad doesn't it, Nacrolathe - makes me think of a mix between Teqilua and Cocaine) and were constantly at each other's throats.

It's actually been put forth as a question in the new novel if he actually was a Death Watchman or not, and a certain character (don't want to spoil anything) said that it was a nasty rumour because he was a hard-liner. But yeah, I've never really gotten the impression that they were any worse than the Crusaders and Neo-Crusaders of the Kotor era... but then again the Crusaders had a code of conduct when the Death Watch had none. Perhaps that's where they get worse because they really could have gotten way beyond antisocial with their Mando training, upbringing and without any guidelines where to draw the line.

Oh yeah, it does sound terrible. Reminds of berserk, too - psychodelic and warlike.

But Death Watch had this agenda of recreating Mandalorian glory and honour, didn't they? So, I guess, there were both hooligans, who wanted only to drink, fight and pillage, and hard-liners, who were attracted by the said agenda, but probably later had to leave because they were outnumbered by the "hooligan"-party.

From what my understanding is that they opposed going back to codes of coduct, but they wished to start a war on the galaxy. Which was why they were against the True Mandalorians, who wanted to be simpke mercs for hire and used a strict code to guide behaviour.
