| STAR TREK Okay, I know this is like blasphemy, but I think Star Trek and Star Wars fans can play nice. I'm not really a Star Trek fan, but I enjoy watching The Next Generation and my boyfriend never stops telling me about the original TV series. This new movie coming out definitely piqued my interest because, first off, it looked cool, and secondly, Simon Pegg is in it. I saw it today and I was blown away. The acting is superb and the pacing really kept the movie going. There wasn't one time where I thought "okay seriously when will this be done?", which is always a plus. I was endlessly entertained by the characterization of Kirk--he's so good at what he does, and yet the entire movie he's being beaten down and slapped around like a redheaded stepchild. It was a great balance. And Spock? Holy CRAP was he good! Definitely my favorite character, aside from Scotty. Anyone else turn to the "dark side" and see it? Also: what would happen to Star Wars if Lucas took his stupid hands out of it and actually let competent people make the movies? Clone Wars is excluded because it still didn't come close to this Star Trek movie. | |

| I'm going to go and watch it as soon as I'm done with my bloody stupid thesis. Is there some kind of conflict between Star Wars and Star Trek fans? Both are good, and they don't really contradict each other. BTW, Star Trek (one of the old ones... the wrath of sombody, don't remember now) was the first US SciFi movie I've seen in my life. It was after it I started looking for more and finally came across the Star Wars. | |

| WRATH OF KHAN? You're my boyfriend's new best friend. :p That is, hands down, his favorite movie in the entire universe. There's sort of a debaucle between Trekkies and Star Warriors--something about how Trekkies think Star Wars doesn't have enough actual science behind it, and then I guess Star Warriors just resent that, and they think Star Trek is boring. I don't know--I like both for different reasons. Good luck on your thesis! This movie will be soooo worth it. | |

| My husband and one of my Jedi friends are some of the rare fans who appreciate and enjoy both Star Trek and Star Wars. I'm one of those people turned off by Star Trek because I get lost in the dryness and near-"realism" of it. I much prefer the mythology and fantasy/fairy tale of Star Wars. However, I must say that of any Star Trek my husband ever made me watch, Enterprise was the only one I would actively watch with interest. Maybe I just like Sam Beckett...um Captain Archer. Sorry, I loved Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap...he's easy on these old eyes. Right now, I'm waiting for a chance to see Wolverine. My husband went with my bother a couple weeks ago, and I really wanted to join them, but I had no babysitter. The new Star Trek seems like it might have some interest for me, but I need to see a full trailer or at least some more clips before I'm fully convinced. | |

| This is a good movie. That's all I can really say. It's not dry, it's never boring, the characters are all lovable and well-balanced, the plot is captivating, the villain isn't ordinary, the scripting is wonderful, the special effects are never too much (IMO), and I'm not familiar with the Star Trek universe and I easily followed the movie.
I think it's the best movie I've seen since... I dunno, Wall-E. >> As an action movie, I liked it more than Iron Man. And it's definitely the best sci-fi movie I've seen in a really, really long time.

| I’ll wait until Star trek comes out on DVD, I don’t mind the films I can remember the original TV show being on and wondering how the poor sap in the red uniform was going to die this week on the away party. The next big film I’m on the edge of my seat for is Angels & Demons I love any thing Knights Templers/illuminati and if it’s as good as the book it’s going to be a corker. But the amount of hype they build up for them they can be a let down. And for all you Ewan fans you can get an eyeful of him as a priest. And I’ve just seen on the Star wars newsletter that Fanboys is just out on DVD state side I hope it makes it over hear. I’ve been waiting ages for it. | |

| I saw Star Trek in IMAX and it was amazing. After the movie my parents and I snuck into a regular theater to see the difference. Totally worth every dollar to see it in IMAX.
I thought the movie looked good and J. J. Abrams directed it. He's very inspirational to me so that was the first hook that got me. Then I found out Simon Peg, John Cho, and Karl Urban were in it and that everyone loved it.
I'm familiar with somethings about Star Trek. I don't really care too much about things being more scientific or real in general. I like seeing different perspectives of the future.

| I wasn't much a fan of Star Trek.... but then I watched the movie.
Oh. Man.
The recent Star Trek movie is worth every scent I paid for the ticket, and then some. I think I might go see it a few more times...
This being said from a very broke, very cheap, college student. (Let's just say I'm ... internet savvy.)

| I saw it a little bit after it came out. Liked it reasonably well. Also, this is hilarious if any of you haven't seen it. When they called Kirk a "farm boy," I busted out laughing in the theater. | |

One of my favorites as well, it freaked me out when I was younger. Only outranked by Sunshine that I watched 3 times since it came out!

| Okay, I saw a movie in the theater for the probably the first time in a year (before that it was The Clone Wars). I managed to see Transformers 2 today, and I rather enjoyed it. I'm not one who can stand boring, long drama stories and Braveheart is probably the sappiest I go on anything. So, needless to say, action and fun ensued, and because I forgot about my bills and my boring house-care responsibilities for about 3 hours, I'm giving it a 2-thumbs up. My personal all-time favorite Transformer was always Bumblebee, but the renditions of Jetfire and Wheelie in this movie have certainly nudged rather close to Bumblebee's ranking. That's all I'll say because I don't want to spoil it for anyone else who hasn't seen it yet, but to put it simply, I was entertained and not bored for one moment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On a related note, I finally dusted off my Pirates of the Caribbean 3 that has been sitting in my house unwatched for nearly two years. This past week my husband and I finally watched that one, and I enjoyed it immensely. Some of the best swashbuckling and craziness I had ever seen in a movie. I don't think I stopped laughing until the end of it. | |

| What a coincidence, I went to see the new Transformers on the same day as you, ma'am. And my feelings about it are almost the same as yours -- explosions EVERYwhere! I guess the axiom hold true, "If the New York Times hates it, it must be a great movie." On another note, I know what I'm going to be watching soon, You Only Live Twice in 1080i! Oh yes, I had a great haul for my birthday. | |

| OK, double update here. I watched You Only Live Twice and I have to say that it wasn't a bad movie, but then again it wasn't good either. Mostly because the astronauts and cosmonauts just seem to have been forgotten after they're free. (In fact, I'm pretty sure 007 blew two of them up near the end.) On top of that, I was not able to discern any one particular Bond Girl in the movie, it was just half-a-dozen different women that somehow all looked the same. (OK, granted that's the way most Bond Girls are, but you usually don't have that sensation before the movie even ends.) Other then that though, it was a pretty good movie. I also went to go see G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra yesterday. It was . . . interesting, to say the least, especially if you know some of the history of the Joes. I won't give away any of the plots twists, but I will say that some of the main characters do die, but luckily, this is G.I. Joe, there's no shortage of characters they can use for future films. Go see it for yourself and decide for yourself what you think of it. | |

| Watched The Hurt Locker the other day. Since it seems that no one I've spoken to has even heard of it, the movie is about an EOD team in Iraq. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it was really frikin' depressing- probably because it seemed to be fairly realistic. After that, I watched GI Joe, and agree with the description of interesting. I enjoyed it, though- a fun movie. I figure that if you liked Transformers, you'd probably like this too (although there is an absence of gigantic alien robots and annoying teenage characters). At the very least, Ray Park is in it...I kept imagining Snake Eyes with a lightsaber. Also, saw District 9 recently. Simply put, it was awesome. | |

| I finally got around to watching District 9 and I really really liked it. I have to admit though that I'm a sucker for realistic "documentary" and fast-paced handheld camera kinds of movies ( Cloverfield comes to mind) so this was geektastic for me. On the low side, they could have dropped a bit on the cynicism and left more room for optimism somewhere. Gotta hate how sci-fi is often used as a critic of society and politics in general. I mean, if you want to see the world advance in some ways you gotta have at least a little faith in humanity, right? But that's another debate. I still liked it. Also watched Crank 2 for giggles One (or two) words: strawberry tart = <3 | |

| I really enjoyed District 9 myself. The plot and storyline were good, and I even liked the ending. The only thing I didn't care for was how graphic it got in certain parts, but it was expected. Also, Iron Prawn was awesome. (The mechanized transformer-looking suit the main character used. It reminded me of Iron Man). | |

| I know it's been a while since anyone's posted in here, buuut... If anyone gets a chance to see Kick-Ass, take it. Absolutely fantastic movie. A fair warning, though- it does contain quite a bit of bloody violence and swearing. Regardless, it's the first movie I've seen in a very long time that's actually made me thoroughly invested in and concerned about the characters. The humour didn't seem forced, and the many action scenes were interestingly and well filmed. No shaky cam either, which is always a plus in my book! Also, Big Daddy and Hit Girl are totally Mandalorians. | |
