PostSubject: Mando-picture Machine   Thu Mar 19, 2009 3:24 am

Throwing the first stone here with a bite-size presentation of what I do when I'm neither working, writing, playing games, taking care of my pets or playing music. Sounds like an easy dream-come-true life, doesn't it?

Well it is. I'm not getting payed for these drawings and artworks and I generally don't make a fuss about compensations or gifts (as a completed piece of art is rewarding in itself). People who insist on paying are actually laying pressure on me to work faster for them and that's a mojo-blocker. By that I mean I get lazy.

So here goes.

And here are the recent "commission" works I completed this year:

Note: you can find the larger version of all these pictures at daennika.deviantart.com

And if you got a request, don't ask me if you can ask me to draw something for you. I will look into every ideas and considerations, do not spam this topic with YOUR requests, send me a PM or email (daennika@yahoo.com)

Another request piece for a dA user: Zabrak female with wrist-mounted laser blades. It was meant to be lightsabers but I can't for the life of me draw yet another Mando-Jedi so I made them look sketchy for interpretation.

click for larger

I'm going to step away from random Mandalorians now and focus on my own stuff, and also request-wise I might pick up Mandomemory's clone characters. Because she requested it some time ago. I have about... dah taddah taddah... four more requests to work on Surprised

Love to see them all in one place, and a great progress in your style and you can see the proportions going from bit off to correct between them. Your Bardan (and Cuir, I'm so biased) is the best I've seen an definitely has influenced how I see him.

I'm curious, when did you start to shy away from doing the Boba/Jango-type chest plates?

Picking a favorite other than Amyr and Verda, I'm going to have to go with Bardan and Runa. It's a really sexy picture even though they're totally clothed!

First, thanks very much Very Happy I'm quite happy about Cuir's rendition as well.

Well I used to see him as that kind of style too but with Triple Zero and the "mundane look" I sort of naturally went for the pretty boy with great hair type.

To answer your question it was quite some time ago when trying to design female breastplates although I really, really liked the standard Fett model. It's also the one you see in Star Wars Galaxies so it strikes a chord each time I see it. If you look closely at all my mandalorians you might notice that they don't all look like they were made from the same mold. Simply because I missed some details and such. But I like to adapt the armor to the "skeleton" of my characters so there are small odds that I might revert back to the standard plates.

I was wondering the other day why there aren't any Mandos with white armor. I love the white armor with the purplish pinkish accents.

I really do like the Amyr and Verda picture. I like the lighting, the background, and the poses are very natural looking.

I'm trying to draw more armor. I'm getting the hang of it, but part of my hand is yelling "NOOOOOO."
I tried to make some sort of rounded breastplate and it turned out looking like a corset. I'll get it next time.

Looks like I missed a couple replies! Thanks guys <3

And Ryler, I don't exactly remember you on dA and that pic spurred so many of those conversations my memory is a totally mess ;P

Anyway, here is what I'm working on, right now: done entirely on Photoshop with pen tablet again, but I'm taking my time and it almost looks as if it was done with pencil and pens on paper (without the scratches, dust and greases)

Awesome! I always sketch in pencil, ink with pens and then erase and scan the lineart. I can't do photoshop lineart. Partly because I have a crap tablet, partly because I have no stylus coordination skillz. I am so much better on paper.

Mad skills, Dae'buir. :3

That used to be my method as well but how about this:

Once you're done with your sketch, don't ink it right away. Scan it, colorize it into blue then print it out (even scale it up if it's too small). Then, use the blue copy of your sketch to ink it!

Once you're done inking, scan again and in Photoshop, go to Image > Adjustments > Channel Mixer. (If there is one) Select the preset to "Black & White with Blue Filter" or move the Blue meter to 100%. This is filter out all the blue values - your sketch - and leave your black inks intact. No more dirty eraser!
