PostSubject: Does anyone know the origin of Boba's kill stripes?   Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:43 pm

Just wondering does anyone know the origin of boba’s kill stripes on his helmet? Is it Lucas lore or has it come form some fan fiction?

Why I ask is 18 kills not that much for the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy confused

My theory goes back to WWII and the service stripes worn on uniform sleeves, one red stripe equalled one years full active service, one white stripe equalled one year non active service

Any ideas?

It would make a squad of mando's a little more unique and at a glance a mando could tell who was an old war dog and who was a FNG (F*****g new guy) Smile

That's a damn good question. I always considered the kill stripes for his "confirmed" or high-profile bounty kills. Of course he could've mowed through countless peons, but only the primary targets got the stripe. For instance, Han Solo. Got him and turned him in, but he didn't kill him. So while he successfully carried out the bounty, he never killed him.

But your theory is just as sound, and I really like it, too. 18 years is about the time between ROTS and ANH. To make it fit even better, those 18 years could be the time between he was officially exiled from Concord Dawn and when he fell into the Sarlaac.

*ahem* 19...but by the time ROTS came around, Boba was well into his teens, as well as the fact that by the time the movie chronologically began, he had already repainted his daddy's armor, methinks. I've only read one of the Boba Fett novels, so I have no clue what had happened.

But I DO know the explanation of that dent. His armor was Jango's repainted, and that dent was gotten during the battle in the arena. err...as far as I know...color me wrong otherwise.

sorry that it didn't help :\

He actually got the dent when he fought darth vader, when they met the first time, darth vader deflected one of boba's blaster bolts back at him, at close range, and it hit him in the head. The distance and the power of the shot left the classic helmet dent that we all know and love today.

If we go with the theory that they represent years of bounty hunting...it fits pretty accuratly. Boba woulda been 'bout 13 by RotS, and at that time he was still just doing local "on planet" jobs for a certain Hutt we are all familiar with...I'll bet they started after he was exiled. because you add the extra 3 years between ANH and RotJ to that, and that puts him at about 16-17, which, given that he was 16 when he married sintas, and left before his daughter could remember him, would give you 19-20 years of badass bounty hunting.

I think he put his Jedi kills down on the helmet, kind of a symboliser to get revenge for his father who was beheaded wearing the helmet. So that would make 18 kills in 20 years, which to me sounds pretty good.

I like that theory Gratulor, Twisted but it makes sense from a certain point of view.

I need to be banned from the Internet. I just clicked "edit" instead of "quote" on Gratulor's post and didn't notice until I posted it. I'm so sorry, Gratulor! *grovels*

What I was TRYING to say was: if you think about it, 18 kills in 20 years is almost one kill a year, and I feel like those kinds of jobs aren't instant "Oh I have to go kill George, George lives over there, BANG!" There's got to be a lot of investigating and tracking before hand, and I feel like that stuff could take months. It's a HUGE galaxy! Not just New York City or anything. And if he's ONLY counting Jedi, then that's really good because who knows how many other chumps he killed along the way!

Sorry again, Gratulor! Embarassed

We all know you're just evil. I kid of course. Wink

Well, considering he's supposed to be a known and experienced Jedi killer, I would be surprised if he only got one or two in all that time while Grevious got all these lightsabres in less than three years. But yeah I totally get that, it's probably all the stalking required over many systems that can get the time away.

Hmm, that's a good point. Grevious killed a butt-ton of Jedi. But, he had the luxury of killing Jedi when they were still high in population--and he squared off with them on a regular basis because of the Clone Wars. Boba's working under the circumstances post-Purge where there aren't that many Jedi, plus they're in hiding. On top of that, how many are even left by the time he starts hunting them? Still, to me, 18 Jedi kills is a pretty fantastic feat. Very Happy

(I'm avoiding using the quote feature so I don't mess things up. rabbit )

To the Rancor with her Smile

Plus the fact that they would all be expecting the big bad V to show up and then BANG! Boba gets them with a curveball (Curveball=Desintergration) Twisted Evil

That makes the most sense of all the theories since Jedi are notorious for leaping out of hole and cutting a person in two, so they would be more note worthy...plus that many lightsabers on your belt, make it REAL hard to be all ninja and stealthy!
