I'm bulimic for music, but I won't just listen to anything. It has to sound pleasant, and suitable for a casual listen, especially when I'm drawing or writing, because I tend to appreciate silence most of the time.
But lately I've been addicted to the relaxing instrumental guitar tunes of Andy McKee.
You can listen to just about anything online for free - and legally - with sites like Deezer.com, or Pandora, etc. Check out Andy McKee on Youtube, he is my new god.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!
Almost 60 and still sexy. I went to one of his concerts last year and I don't think I've ever been so pumped full of endorphins. Changed my life. His lyrics are accessible and full of real life bullshit--it's easy to relate to him. :)
I also adore The Killers--they're excellent mood music, and Brandon Flowers is darling. I listen to The Ting Tings a lot when I need some sass! I also enjoy Vampire Weekend. They're very interesting musically, although most of their lyrics are cryptic at best.
I have a metal streak, usually bad metal like Disturbed. I like System of a Down, Sonata Arctica, and the occasional Dragonforce. Whatever my guy friends are into and I pick up.
I've been listening to a Pandora station a lot recently. It's great fun. :D
Daennika, I love a good acoustic guitar. The song you linked to is gorgeous!

Lick my battery!
If it has a good beat and stimulates me then it's good. It also helps if I can dance to it.

1) Hinn Íslenzki Þursaflokkur. Check out this song for a taste of what they are about. 2) Týr, a Faroese metal band. Check this song out to see what they're about if you haven't heard them. They're great. 3) Queen, particularily the song Killer Queen - you have all heard that one. 4) Any traditional song from any country, I'm a culture nut if you haven't noticed so if they speak to me I like them.

I'm currently in love with Janelle Monae and Metropolis: The Chase album. I think I've bombarded everyone I know with her songs. While I like all of the songs, my favorites would be Violet Stars Happy Hunting, Many Moons, and Sincerely Jane.

Hinn Íslenzki Þursaflokkur is love! I want more! Icelandic language is beautiful, and the melody is very nice. Týr is also good. It seems I have a knack for Scandinavian music.
Well, as for my backgrond, right now it consists of a mixture of random celtic and jazz pieces and some of Muse (oh come on, everybode must've heard it, I'm not posting a link here) and Mago de Oz (it's a Spanish rock band - they're a bit freaky, but their songs are nice). My favorite is this one:

Well, I'm listening music every day. Always, when I'm spending my free time in my room (reading, drawing, doing homework...), the stereo is on. When I'm going outside, I'm taking my mp3 player. When I'm using computer (I don't have computer in my room) I'm listening to music using winamp, or youtube. This is how, and when, but what am I listening to? My music God, and the best of the best band in the world is BUDGIE. I have a couple of their albums on my father's cassetes. It's how I started listening to them.
I was on two concerts of Budgie, both in Poznan, and in Mai I'm going for next one, to Wroclaw
Also one of the greatest band in the universe is IMO Metallica I think I don't have to tell You anything about them
Other favourite bands: PANTERA SLAYER TSA And many, many more

I've always been fond of swing/Big Band music, but classical and some soundtracks can be pretty good as well. A bit of rock is nice too. As for particular bands, I've been listening to a lot of Globus and Kaizer's Orchestra recently.

I did an internet survey once that said my theme song was "Back in Black" by AC/DC. It's rather fitting considering I am a bit of a phoenix. (Long story short...I beat Thyroid Cancer after a 3-year battle. This October will be officially 6 years in remission.)
Overall, though, my music tastes go all over the place. When I'm at work and my iPod is playing, it goes from Huey Lewis & the News' "Power of Love" to Godmack's "Whatever" in a blink. Scares a lot of auditors and visitors when they're thinking I'm some mild-mannered employee.
With that said, my music jumps around quite a few genres.
Some of the highlights on my iPod that I NEVER fast forward: Nickelback Godsmack Collide Bon Jovi (Jersey Girl - they're a MUST!)
General Genres I follow: Rock '80s '70s Soundtracks
I'm not into any hip-hop, rap, or country. I like my guitars and my drums, and country's a bit too twangy for me!

We need more muppets in music videos....
Background for me is whatever is on the tellie.
Music wise I likes me some lyrical accoutraments that are pleasant. My tunes library has everything from traditional classical to hip/hop...or Bach to Insane Clown Posse. Worse yet, what is playing is generally attributed to the random button....which means Garth Brooks followed by some Beethoven followed by John Williams followed by Disney Song X followed by Disturbed.....yeah makes for interesting.

That is kind of strange Bastion, but hey if you like it, you like it
Personally for me, my music taste changes with my mood and/or the season, apparently. Recently I've fell back into my little... I don't know what to call it. I've been listening to:
Audioslave Soundgarden AC/DC Total Movement
and every couple of songs I'll listen to... Aaliyah. Specifically the Romeo Must Die soundtrack. (I just watched Romeo Must Die for the... idk, eleventh time? I love that movie more than seems proper)

Here, here! Your library sounds very much like the one I'd wish to have one day, but for now I think I'll just settle for switching from Neil Diamond to Frank Klepacki at a moment's notice.
As for the songs I most like to listen to, they're somewhere between "The Sunny Side of the Street" and "Grinder 2." Mostly big band and war music if I can help it though.

My only real requirement is that I have to be able to sing along to it... which gets really interesting when I'm trying to sing any songs in other languages. Dramatic songs are the best, if it's got drama, it's probably pretty high up on the list of favorites
I am in love with musicals so most of my music comes from there (Wicked, Sweeney Todd and Repo are at the top of my list right now) As for specific bands I like Queen because they've got amazing evrything the Killers becasue they're dramatic (and they've got the coolest base lines ever) CAKE and They Might Be Giants because they're funny and their songs get stuck in my head easily

It's from BattleStar Galactica and I think it's featured in season 2. It's called "Prelude to War"

Bear McCreary for the win! Funny how season two is the only soundtrack I don't have ... I listen to so many different Genre its hard to put a favorite down, I can go from Bear McCreary and John Williams to Skillet and Demon Hunter.... It usually depends on what mood I'm in.

My taste in music tends to skip around a lot, as where I was raised there were not many people my own age around, and when I was around people my own age, it was mostly for music classes (I was in the Youth Symphony back home and did all the stuff the orch dorks do in school) so I was used to listening to what my parents listened to growing up, which was mostly music from the 40s and classical music. I love Beethoven, Mozart and Dvorak, Tchaikovsky is okay but I get annoyed with his music after a while. The most fun thing I think I've ever played was Carmen though; I think Bizet must have decided that violas were underused or something, not often we got something so interesting.
I love Celtic music; we had a pub in the village back home and they would give us free drinks to come in and fiddle on Sundays, and sometimes one of the guys from Flogging Molly would come in and play with us (his uncle owned it or something like that). Loreena McKennit is wonderful, but I've also gotten a bit into Heather Dale, though I've only ever been able to find her music online. Not a big following in the States I guess.
Other than that it mixes up a bit, Matchbox 20 is what I was listening to the most for a while, but I like Creed, Staind, Train, Evenessence, stuff like that. I tend to buy songs more than actual cds anymore, mostly because it's really hard for me to find a complete cd where I like everything. And I like music to match my moods. When my mom got diagnosed with cancer I think I downloaded every song there has to do with cancer, and I actually have a cd of "Music to Listen to While Committing Suicide" (I was writing a scene where a character commits, or tries to commit, suicide in one of the books I'm working on, and I needed something to "get me in the mood". Odd thing is I played that in my car while driving afterwards )
