| Last night I was writing a sequel chapter of my CFM series and realized that it was a lot easier than I remembered it to be. Usually I would procrastinate for weeks before actually opening my trusty OpenWriter to slap a few paragraphs down.
But this time the words seemed to flow easily and the ideas came gushing out of my eyes, ears and nostrils as I kept typing. What's going on?! I asked myself at 3 AM.
Well here's what's been happening: I had been working on original sci-fi stories. I say "stories" because it was so much to imagine, so many things to take into account (real scientific advancements, history, politics, society stuff), I had to create everything from scratch for each character and understand how it all came together. My brain was on fire after a couple of months doing that, not counting the hours spent bouncing ideas off of friends and strangers, juggling a day time job and trying to keep a grasp of reality which, as you may know, is pretty turbulent right now.
So with all of this intellectual gymnastics I think I've figured out how to be a better writer (or at least a more productive one). I have to be curious about everything, always crave more knowledge, never stop at any certainty, and finally, teach others what I learned as often as I can. It may seem like "all talk, no action" but giving out free knowledge is invaluable both for me and for whoever's interested. I may come out as a spazzy geek with an OCD but it turns out that I really enjoy telling stories.
But back to CFM: this stuff is EASY compared to the stuff I had to deal with in my original material. Maybe I am less anxious about writing fan fiction because I won't take it personally if people don't like. But with this pressure off my back I don't have this "Do I even know what the plot is? Am I a fraud? Why am I pretending to be a writer?" syndrome. I just write what I would love to read in a fan fic and, this time, IT WORKS.
Writing is like everything else: once you're used to doing the hard stuff, the rest is all fun and easy. | |

| So happy to hear you found a new groove for this writing thing. I look forward to your return to the fan fiction world. You've been sorely missed!! | |
