After posting in the 'Choose your adoptive parents' thread, this hit me- Would you want to lead you if there were live fire going back and forth?

For my part, I'd likely just get into cover, and see who takes charge- I'm not much for leadership, but I do teamwork very well.

I'd probably go for about the same thing. I'm no leader, by any means, and would get flustered and have no clue what to do if I were given the lead for some reason or other. And while I can get on alone just fine (I'm not entirely a social creature, and have no problems keeping myself entertained without company), I do enjoy occasionally hanging out with other people--and if the proverbial osik were to hit the fan, my lack-of-leader-ness would warrant that I'd need other people to follow around, or I'd still suffer the "I have absolutely no ruttin' idea what to do now" issue.

I would have to say that personally I wouldn't mind if someone elso stepped up and took charge, but if nobody was going to, and the situation called for a clear leader/chain-of-command, then yes I would step up and take charge and do everything within my power and more to get as many of my troops out of that shab hole in one piece. To me it doesn't really matter what the situation is, if someone needs to step up and take charge, but noone is, whether it is a fire-fight, or survival situation, I will step in and give 110%

Good topic!

See, I have this problem - and I'm sure not to be the only one - is that I tend to over-think everything before I act. In a result I never sleep well at night and even if obeying orders doesn't bother me in theory there's always a moment where I'm going to figure out another way to achieve one goal. I could be a lone wolf but I really like having peeps by my side when things get hairy.

This stuff kind of happened many times in online games so yes, I love to lead and give instructions Very Happy

I'm either way. I get antsy with responsibility, but if no one else steps up in group projects or whatever, I usually go "FINE here's how it's going down!" and take charge.

In a true combat situation, if I had all of the knowledge that a sergeant would need, I think I would like to lead a squad. But as it stands, someone else leading is juuuust fine with me.

I'd say... it really depends on the situation.

Let's say, for sake of argument, that we're all Mandalorians with the proper training for these types of battle-related engagements. (Because really, unless we're battle-trained or preparing ourselves for the Zombie Apocalypse--which I am, by the way--we're simply not equipped to deal with live-fire situations as we are now)

Personally, I don't work well with people. I simply don't. If I had to, I would work with only 2-3 others, and no more than that. Furthermore, I don't like to lead. That kind of responsibility isn't something I really enjoy holding, not because I can't do it (I know I can) but because that's an added amount of pressure and expectation I'd rather do without.

I'm also more of a... medic-oriented mind. I'd probably hang back and patch up anyone I need to. Generally, it's not a great idea to have your medic take point.

If there was a situation where the leader fell or someone obviously needed to step up to the plate, then I would do it. I'm matter-of-fact, and I don't take any nonsense when work needs to be done, so my personality tends to do a complete 180 from my normal, humorous self, to a cold and detached robot. It's not pleasant (for everyone involved), but it gets things done when things aren't, or aren't fast enough.

Semi-related note: I've found that I work best with one other person. Usually either he leads or makes the plan, and then we wing it from there, or we split up and meet back together without saying anything. We've been friends for so long that our teamwork is on a level that doesn't need too much verbal communication to succeed, which is... really kind of bizarre and unique, but hey. That's why he's my best buddy.

In real life I do have leadership traits, and have been over others in my workplace. So let's say we were in SW land and was offered the chance to be a point man. I would decline and follow a more experienced one, and in the process learn from that person.

Ahahahahahaha.

Well I'm more self reliant, but when it comes down to it, I will lead. This probably means there's gonna be some meat shields, but not wastingly so. I'd rather worry about my own arse, than others, but when it becomes apparent others are becoming sheeple it's time to take charge and lead the flock. There be too many followers already.

I'm not in the middle, but I believe I'm both. I don't like to be in the spotlight and prefer to mostly be the glue that keeps everyone together; I've always been a mediator. Razz I like to have a strong leader to make the decisions, because I'm not always the most decisive when it comes to difficult situations. I suppose my favorite place to be would be a right-hand man, to be honest.

However, if the group of people shows a distinct lack of maturity or leadership, I do not hesitate to take control. Razz Then I become a total hard ass and order people around like a miffed mom. I attribute it to being an oldest sibling to 3 others. Very Happy

So, sergeant if I had to, but I prefer glue or second mate. Razz

It's kind of difficult to say. Usually in group situations I'm either the leader, or the person who's fairly indifferent and will do whatever that needs to be done. It depends on how much I care and who I'm working with. I think I'm more like Gratulor. If there's someone more experienced than me I'll follow them. But if I think or know I can lead in a certain situation I'll do it.

When I first started playing SWG as a rp Mandalorian I wanted nothing to do with leadership. At the time however most people couldnt name another Mandalorian besides the fetts so I had a hard time finding any clan/guilds to join. So I sucked it up and thought "fine ill start it, but ill only be incharge until someone else will take over".

That was 5 years ago and I am currently the leader of the largest Mandalorian rp clan an MMO has seen. Now Im not going to sit here and say im an awesome leader but apparently im doing something right. First one in, last one out, and the clan follows... normaly with great end results.

Lead? Ha! I dislike groups. Too many people irritate me. I'd rather go it alone, or with a few trusted equals and we'd watch each other's backs.

But, sadly, that is not the reality of life and I find myself in the leadership role most of the time simply because everybody else steps back and I step forward. I hate to toot my own horn, but I often feel I'm completely surrounded by wusses who just hang back and let me do all the work.

I don't know if, given I really was a Mandalorian, implying all training, and surrounded by other Mandalorians, this would still be true.

But when it comes down to it, based on the way I work... If I must, I will. That goes for commanding others, hanging back, or even work detail. You gotta do what you gotta do, and you gotta strive to do the most that you can do. Neutral

Naw. You'd share something huge and unique with your brothers and sisters in arms and that's suffering. Combat training is a lot of pain, it's the hardest thing one has to do in their life so they learn to place their lives in the hands of their friends. It's what keeps squads and teams together in harsh times and helps leaders find their most loyal subjects in order to complete an objective.

Civilian life has lost all of these concepts which explains why you feel so bitter about life and other people. Just hang in there, and multiply social experiences until you find your fellow "sufferers" drunken

Yeah, I find myself thinking that a lot. Most people just don't have the will to do what they should jump at doing. I often find myself hurt because nobody takes the jump with me-- I try to do everything myself because I *know* nobody's picking up my slack and I smash into a wall.

Serves them right if I someday start cussing them out in Mando'a.

I figure I have a pretty good chance of running into 'sufferers' here. Cool

Well, if we're talking about a classic squad and if we pretend we're all Mandos with the proper training, then...

Definitely no. Just no way I'd take this kind of responsibility. I can't say I'm a team player by my mindset, but I do know that sometimes teamwork is necessary (now that I had two or three times when really big shit happened because of my reluctance to cooperate with the others), so I'm not a lone wolf anymore. I'd rather had some narrow field at which I'd be much better than the others, so that they just leave me be and do my job. Demolitions, for example. I think I'd make not a bad demolitions' man.
